The Mariners have now gone 1-5 since their Opening Day shutout against the Guardians, and will have to head on the road for their next 6 games. They’re looking to improve on an exceptional season last year, where they won 90 games and made the playoffs for the first time since 2001. They need to get back on track.
The Guardians picked up their 5th win in their last 6 games, defeating the Athletics and winning their second straight series. They’re on a complete opposite trajectory as the Mariners following their Opening Day bout, and will have an opportunity to further the gap between them with a home series here. Cleveland’s hot start has ignited hopes that they could finally be returning to a World Series capable team.
Prediction
These two teams have been headed in opposite directions ever since Opening Day. They’ve already played a series against each other this season, with the Guardians winning 2-1 in Seattle. Now back in Cleveland, they should have even more success. I’m not certain that a sweep will happen, but I feel pretty good about picking the Guardians to win both this game and the series as a whole against the Mariners.
