Game Preview
Detroit lost their 4th straight game on Sunday, falling 4-1 to the Red Sox. They’ve had a tough schedule so far, but with concerning results. They excelled in their series against the struggling, but still defending champion, Astros, but went 0-6 against the Rays and Red Sox. The Tigers will face their 3rd AL East team next, hoping to avoid being swept by that division for the 3rd time. They need more consistent pitching.
The Blue Jays have won 5 of their last 6 games, improving to 6-4 after a rough 1-3 start. They split their Sunday double-header against the Angels, losing the first game 9-5, and then winning the second game 12-11 in extra innings. Toronto managed to avoid losing both games, but may not hold much momentum entering this game. They have a great opportunity to heat back up against the bottom-dwelling Tigers.
Prediction
It’d be pretty difficult to pick the Tigers with the way they are playing so far this season, and have over the past several seasons. Detroit is 2-7 with a -35 run differential. The only saving grace could be that both their wins came on the road, but being away from home won’t be an advantage either. Their 0-6 record against the MLB’s best division is telling, and I see that only getting worse here. I’ll take Toronto to win it.
