The college football season is past the midway point. Let’s preview the UNLV vs Fresno State game. Both of these teams are now 6-1, and remain in striking distance of the Mountain West’s top spot.

Preview

UNLV has now won 5 straight games. They improved to 6-1 last week, with the sole loss coming at #2 Michigan. While the Rebels have not taken any bad losses, they also haven’t really had the chance to claim good wins. This week’s road game against Fresno State changes that, with a trip to #19 Air Force also on the schedule. UNLV’s offense is solid, but their defense has some holes that could cost them.

Fresno State bounced back from their tough first loss to Wyoming with a road win over Utah State. They remain on the cusp of the Top 25, with a chance to further their standing with a win over 6-1 UNLV this week. This will be the Bulldogs toughest remaining test, and a crucial one to their hopes of making the Mountain West title game. Their defense has been streaky this year, and needs to find some consistency.

Prediction

In of statistics, Fresno State should be a relatively solid favorite over UNLV in this game. The Rebels record is a bit skewed by their subpar schedule thus far. That being said, it’s still difficult to go 6-1, and I would be pretty surprised if UNLV isn’t at least somewhat competitive in this game. Ultimately, the Bulldogs should be able come away with the win at home, but I’ll take the Rebels to cover the spread here.
