Event Preview

There has been a clear gulf in quality between the Florida Panthers and the Carolina Hurricanes in the Eastern Conference finals this season. The Cats already look on course for a slice of history, and they will have their sights set on securing a third straight appearance in the Stanley Cup finals with a whitewash success over the Hurricanes.

Florida has been the dominant force in this series, winning each of their three matches against the Hurricanes to this point. Not only that, but their dominance has been reflected by the fact that they have scored at least five goals in each of their three wins over Carolina.

Being back in front of their home fans in game three did little to change the course of the series, as the Panthers scored a staggering five goals in the final period to rip away any chance of a memorable win on the road for the Hurricanes.

Aleksander Barkov and Niko Mikkola both enjoyed excellent evenings for the Panthers, with both stars netting twice. Further efforts were scored by Brad Marchand and Jesper Boqvist.

It is the manner in which the Hurricanes have crumbled in this series that would raise the most concern. Their only bright moments were goals in the second and third periods over the weekend. But, a massive change in fortunes is required to stand any chance of producing a historic comeback.

We haven’t seen enough to suggest that the Hurricanes will get a win on the board in this series, regardless of stringing three wins together to force a game seven. They could be put out of their misery in Florida on Monday evening.
