Event Preview
The eyes of the motorsport world will be on Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, as the Indy 500 will be staged. A thrilling race looks to be in prospect, with two-time defending champion Josef Newgarden among the leading contenders.
Meanwhile, Kyle Larson will have a second attempt to complete the Double Duty, with the Coca-Cola 600 being staged on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule later in the afternoon.
The race forms part of the Triple Crown of Motorsport, and the field of drivers will complete a total of 200 laps to make up the race distance of 500 miles. The Indy 500 was first staged in 1911, and cases can be made for a number of the drivers involved.

Robert Schwartzman is the unlikely driver who qualified best, as the former Ferrari reserve driver in Formula 1 became the first rookie to qualify on pole since Teo Fabi in 1983. However, holding off the chasing pack could be a challenging assignment in Indiana.
Pato O’Ward and Takuma Sato both have strong starting positions after qualifying well in Indiana. Scott Dixon and Alex Palou also both have leading claims after qualifying on the second row. Newgarden will have a tall order if he is to achieve the unlikely feat of winning the race for a third straight year, as the American starts on the fourth row.
Indianapolis 500 Picks
Scott McLaughlin could be an interesting contender for the Indy 500 this weekend. The Australian will start on the fourth row alongside Newgarden, and he has a positive record in the race after improving season-on-season. Last year, he claimed a very impressive sixth-place, and he could go a few places better in 2025.
