Event Preview

An interesting semi-final encounter is set for Roland Garros on Thursday, as world number 361 Lois Boisson bids to continue her mesmeric rise at her home Grand Slam when she collides with Coco Gauff.

Boisson was a massive outsider in the betting to claim her maiden Grand Slam success in front of her adoring hometown crowd, but she is just two victories away from sporting immortality. The 22-year-old has already shown her class against top-quality players at the French Open this summer, beating Jessica Pegula in three sets and sixth-seed Mirra Andreeva in straight sets in the quarterfinals.

It has been a remarkable coming-of-age for the French star this summer. It is even more remarkable considering that she hadn’t even qualified for a Grand Slam event before the French Open this year.

However, she will have the odds stacked against her on Thursday when she comes up against the impressive Coco Gauff. The American is chasing a second career Grand Slam title. Gauff previously reached the final at Roland Garros in 2022.

The 21-year-old has been excellent throughout the tournament this year, dropping just a single set. That came in the previous round against compatriot Madison Keys, but Gauff showed all the hallmarks of a champion to battle back from a set down to book her spot in the final four in three sets.

Head-to-Head Record

This week’s semi-final between Gauff and Boisson will be the first head-to-head meeting between the players on the WTA Tour.

Lois Boisson vs. Coco Gauff Picks

Boisson deserves huge credit for her performances to this point, but she could come unstuck against a previous Grand Slam champion who is purring on court at present. Gauff’s dominant run to this stage means that it could be worthwhile to side with the American cruising through to the final in straight sets.
